A CFB Cartel Controls the Playoffs
Creating an Anticompetitive Environment
For decades, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) has had an anticompetitive influence over the most lucrative bowl games beginning with the BSC, later with the NY6, and now with the expanded College Football Playoff (CFP). In addition, starting in 2026, the SEC will have expanded decision-making authority over the CFP with enhanced veto power. This will ensure greater artificial access to CFP games even when other teams are more deserving of playoff bids.
In addition, ESPN has a conflict of interest by holding exclusive media rights to both the SEC Network and the College Football Playoff. This creates an unethical incentive for ESPN to act as an amplified mouthpiece for the SEC, which influences CFP rankings.
However, the college football market is a sleeping giant. Approximately, 70% of the TV viewers consist of fans who do not directly support the SEC. This statistic obscured because most fans currently watch SEC games. However, together, we can shift the balance of power to demand a transparent playoff system.
It's Time for Fans to Join the Fight
We will continue to increase the reach of our SEC boycott until:
The College Football Playoff Committee is permanently abolished.
An independent and fully transparent computer ranking model is adopted.
All votes and meeting minutes related to the College Football Playoff are made public.

Three Simple Steps to Demand Transparency
Sign our Pledge
Join our pledge to boycott all SEC games except when playing a team you support. This allows us to display a united stand.
Approximately 70% of college football viewers are not direct fans of the SEC, which is ESPN's primary revenue source for college football.
Boycott SEC Games
TV viewership provides 60% of university football revenue. This is the prize the CFB Cartel protects the most.
As fans and customers of college football, we cannot be ignored if we simply do not watch the games.
Get the Word Out
Share this website with other football fans, fan message boards, and on social media. Let them know that you have joined the fight.
The majority of college football fans want a transparent playoff system. If we stand together, we cannot be ignored.
Sports Boycotts are Effective
Here are just a few examples
NFL Blackout Protest (2015)
NFL fans protested blackout rules that prevented local broadcasts of home games that were not sold out through boycotts and social media engagement.
As a result, by 2015 the NFL ended most blackout restrictions.
NCAA EA Sports Boycott (2013)
The NCAA prohibited compensation of player likenesses in video games.
Fans boycotted EA Sports NCAA games which became a successful precursor to litigation and the modern ear of NIL.
NHL Ticket Price Boycotts (2000s)
Multiple NHL teams aggressively hiked up ticket prices while investing very little in facilities and fan experiences.
Fans staged large-scale "empty-seat" boycotts and season ticket cancellations. As a result, ticket prices were reduced or frozen.
MLB Protest and Boycott (2018)
The MLB forced fans to pay for extra subscriptions to watch out-of-market games.
Through coordinated complaints, social media campaigns, and subscription cancellations, the MLB revised its out-of-market blackout rules.
Chicago Cubs Boycott (2020)
The Cubs moved many games off of cable services and onto a newly created Marquee Network.
Widespread cable subscription cancellations and social media pressure forced the Cubs to offer network games on cable and reduce streaming restrictions.
Minor League Boycott (2000s)
Many minor league baseball teams were increasing ticket prices while not maintaining facilities and improving the fan experience.
Fans boycotted multiple MiLB teams, forcing team owners to reduce ticket prices and improve game experiences.
